Chiropractors, troubleshooters of a human body

Friday, July 27, 2007

The sound of bones cracking is not exactly pleasant, but in the chiropractors consulting room it is a sound, which means that your body is being repaired. Chiropractic is a medical discipline that treats mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system, which might cause various health troubles. Our job is to make the human body work as efficiently as possible, explains Aurelie Belsot, a 29-year-old French chiropractor living and working in Istanbul.

Accidents, falls, stress, tension, overexertion, and countless other factors can result in displacement or derangement of the spine, causing irritation to spinal nerve roots. Chiropractic reduces or eliminates this irritation of spinal nerves and makes the human body operate more efficiently and more comfortably.

You could even compare the human body to a computer. If the computer’s neural systems its programs work improperly, the computer itself has trouble operating correctly. Our work is then to seek interferences in the human neural system and correct them, Aurelie Belsot says. Her colleague, doctor Mustafa Ağaoğlu, who has a chiropractors office in İzmir, thinks that one of the biggest advantages of chiropractic is that it can help a lot naturally and without drugs or surgery.

The most common method of chiropractic is called adjustment. We put the articulars in their correct places by a quick, but not too strong move, Belsot describes. During this move you can often hear an unpleasant sound of cracking bones. It is nothing unnatural, she assures.

Altogether there are more than 20 another chiropractic methods. Each chiropractor uses a different set of methods and combinations, which differ for each patient as well. And chiropractor’s patients are indeed various, from newborns to the elderly close to the age of 100. The number of chiropractic sessions as well as their frequency differs. It could be four of them a month or four of them over half a year.

Anyway the treatment is so intensive, that even after the first session the majority of patients feel a great deal of improvement. But not even chiropractic is all-powerful. There are also patients whom we are not able to help. Either their state is so neglected or they have some kind of infection in the body or for example osteoporosis, Ağaoğlu explains.

Another special thing about chiropractic is that it places emphasis on nutritional and exercise programs, wellness and lifestyle modifications for promoting physical and mental health. Bad thinking causes tension in the mind. Tension in the mind causes tension in the body. Your body also needs the proper nutriment and exercise, like everywhere even in cases connected with your health stands nothing in excess, Ağaoğlu says.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic (from Greek cheira and praktikos meaning “done by hand”) is a health care profession whose purpose is to diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system and improving health. D. D. Palmer founded Chiropractic in 1895, and it is now practiced in more than 100 countries. Chiropractic treatments commonly include spinal adjustments, although other interventions may be used as well. The examination of the spine to evaluate the structure and function is what makes Chiropractic different from other health care procedures.
